Food Friday #4 – Peppermint Monkey Bread

If this wasn’t on your work food area this morning, you work at the WRONG place.
This what was I walked into dear hubby’s work with. He had the higher ups and old co-workers from KC up and they love when I bring food. Usually, they point blank ask M to have me bring food.

So, How do you make this you say?
AH! It is SOOOO EASY!

What you need:
Crescent rolls
Peppermint Mini Marshmallows
Brown sugar
Butter
White sugar
Ground cinnamon

Pan
Oven
Non-stick spray

Pre heat oven to 350.

Take your crescent rolls, and cut each triangle into thirds. Stick two mini marshmallows (or three, or whatever fits) in the middle of each section of dough. Roll the dough up around it.
Do this to how ever many cans of crescent rolls you have.

In a gallon Ziplock bag mix white sugar and cinnamon to taste. You will want enough to be able to shake around the dough, you are going to coat them.

Then, take each of your little dough balls, with the mellows inside. Put them 2 or 3 at a time in the zip lock bag with the cinnamon sugar mix and SHAKE! Coat well and evenly. Then take and put into your pre-non stickified pan.

Once your pan is full of all your little things. Get ready to make the drizzle topping stuff.

Mix brown sugar and butter about 50/50. Mix this by eye until its a thick consistancy but is still runny.
Dribble over all of your dough balls in the pan evenly.

Slide into oven for about 20-30 minutes, check them starting at 20. You want the top to be kinda hard and crunchy but NOT burnt.

When its done, remove from oven and immediately for best results turn upside down onto what ever serving platter you wish.

Coupons

Growing up, my mom said she had read a book a long time back about how coupons are a waste of time. That they don’t save you money. That buying off brand is always cheaper.

I, assumed this was correct. And then my life changed. In march I had a severe food reaction to peanuts. I used to shop at Aldi. I no longer can for a lot of things. They are not very good about labeling the foods.
So, instead of buying some at Aldi and some at Dillons or Walmart, I just go to one store that I can buy name brand products that label.

Name brand products use coupons. I have to buy name brand. I stay at home full time. I have time. I ran out of excuses.

SOO My friend Sammie over at the blog http://bargainsandblessings.blogspot.com/ taught a coupon class this last week. It was alot easier then I anticipated. So now I am looking forward to starting this.

Notes from class:
Find a local store that doubles coupons.
In my area those stores are (And you may have them by you!)
– Summer fresh
– Kroger/ Dillons ( Same store)
– Harter house
– Price Cutter

You get the most bang for your buck if you ‘stack’ coupons, or you pair them with items on clearance.

Sales are not always advertised in public. They are simply in the store. You can find out a lot about in store only sales and pretty much everything else you ever wanted to know over at www.thekrazycoupnlady.com

Binder. Binder. Binder. Binder. or SOMETHING to keep stuff organized. Many people use the baseball card things, but Sammie prints out most of her coupons, so she suggests a 4×6 photo album.
For your Sunday inserts, use a manila envelope with the date of the insert.

That is a nice segway to the next point – DON’T GO BUY A ZILLION NEWSPAPERS. Sammie suggested maybe only like 1 or 2. Don’t buy them on holiday weekends, since they wont have them (Like this weekend). And if you can get a regional paper, like here, we can get the KC star also, do. Instead of a 50 cent off coupon for something from a paper here, you can likely get it 65 cent off from kc. Prices are higher there.

All*you magazine – buy it at walmart it is 1.88 there. Don’t subscribe, you pay more that way. It has coupons in it.

Make sure you have a copy of the coupons policy of the store.

So there ya go! I am looking forward to being able to do my first coupon trip when I get back form California!

About our diet (Food on Friday)

I am going to start posting some recipes I make at home. They always seem to be in demand, and I am not disciplined enough to run thirty blogs. So you all just get one! With lots of themes and things! Maybe if I separated them out I would become a famous blogger… Too much work *sigh*.

We at the .Com house here eat chicken, and a fair amount of it. out of out meat consumption 98% is chicken and the rest is either 97/3 ground beef or bacon bits. Our meat consumption is this because of a few reasons, 1) I cant STAND beef or pork for the most part. 2) I love fish, but no one else here does -.- and 3) the amount of hormones and additives in beef and pork doesn’t fly well with this Neo-Hippy. We also eat a lot of vegetarian base meals.

When we moved across state I made a commitment to myself and my family that since being at home would be my full time job, I was altering our diet MAJORLY. Done buying pre packaged, pre made stuff. It was time for a revolution!

Alot of the meals you see here are healthy, or healthier alternatives to recipes.
Based on chicken OR meatless
I am also going to work on trying to incorporate more Vegan meals into our diet. And not crappy ones, yummy ones.

A large part of my inspiration comes from Pintrest, and other food blogs. If you have a recipie you would like me to try, or make more healthy for you, let me know 🙂

Catching you up on the past few months of life

Back when I started this blog, oh you know, back in january, It was to document my ‘neo-hippy’ adventures, if you will. Well, since then, A job transfer happened, A room mate happened, Selling my breeding buisness happened, an across state move happened. It threw a wrench in my life. Yup. Thats right, I dont roll with punches well.

We have/had been trying to conceive. Yeah, screw that. I quit. Tried for a year, My hormones are so unbalanced I got frustrated and I quit (for now). Back onto birthcontrol. Hi memory, its nice to have you back! and various other normalities, I missed you!

I put down a deposit on a little Sphynx kitten, Element, I will make post about her here next. She comes home mid october. I am very excited to welcome her to the commune of the .COM.

Fair starts very soon, so my life will get silly crazy fast. and then in a huge whirl wind? It will be over.
